MWC 2019: Ericsson
Although Ericsson has always been at the forefront of innovation – setting the benchmark for the industry as a whole – it operates in an increasingly tough competitive environment. So, for MWC 2019, Ericsson’s ambition was to present themselves as the only logical partner for 5G and beyond.

Role Within JMW Team
As per the previous year, I was responsible for the breakout spaces off the main floor, which are listed in the column on the left under ‘Areas of Ownership’.
The team were keen to retain the same aesthetic balance but add bolder, sweeping statements of colour across the demo floor and a larger floral presence generally across the stand. I applied this specifically in both restaurants, adding a higher percentage of colour and large planter boxes that were positioned in the centre of both spaces. Offering privacy, comfort and relaxation is a priority in these spaces - so combining soft, comfortable seating around these green focal points united these two components to act as one main island seating block.
Another new addition to this years break-out spaces was the addition of a warm, off-white nude tone. Previously, we had kept to monochromatic pairings with the new brand colours but this addition complimented the main brand colours and created a slightly softer interior feeling.

MWC 2018: Ericsson
Modelled after the brand’s drive to put customers at the heart of their work, we worked to design a space that was easy to navigate and that dynamically expressed the simplicity of the brand promise. Welcome to the Do Zone.

Role within JMW Team
My role within the team was to be support for Roger Munro. We divided up the areas needing design focus so that we both could both own specific parts. You can see the areas I was responsible for on the left under ‘Areas of Ownership’.
MWC 2018 was used to showcase Ericsson’s new brand refresh. A new font, colour palette and minimalist aesthetic were all brought together to present a clean and simple design language. While there was design guidance for 2D and graphical applications, there was little exploration as to what this would look like in a 3D environment. In order to create a solution, both 2D and 3D teams sat and worked together creating moodboards to establish a cohesive design aesthetic that felt united graphically and environmentally.
Once we had created this foundation I was able to apply it to the areas out-with the main floor. My key challenge was to retain clean and minimal interiors that retained areas of texture and interest without being overtly fussy or decorative.

Role Within JMW Team
My role within the team was similar to the previous two years.
I was responsible for the breakout spaces off the main floor, which are listed in the column on the left under
‘Areas of Ownership’.
These areas (generally) have more of an interior design challenge than the main floor and demo area. Efficiency and minimalism feature heavily in alignment with the clients branding, but a lot of these spaces also have to offer a form of comfort and respite from the busy main floor. Thus, there has to be a balance achieved in warmth and comfort without being unnecessarily decorative.
The client was pleased with the direction and execution created the previous year, so my challenge was to retain a similar aesthetic feel but with updates to materials, graphics and colour palettes for my areas.
