Reception Installations: JMW

Over the years, I was lucky enough to be part of a small team at JMW who took immense pleasure in creating an array of installations for the London office’s reception area. Outlandish ideas, mixed with general budget constraints and a focus on re-use of exiting props / furniture meant more creative, crafty, in-house solutions with a dose of humour mixed in for good measure.

Role + Responsibilities

MWC 2020: Ericsson

  • Agency: Jack Morton Worldwide

  • Role: Designer

  • Responsibility: Design and specification of
    the overall space

    - Environmental Styling

    - Space Planning

    - Interior Design

    - Prop Making

    - Installation

Areas of Ownership

These jobs were normally worked on as a side project in tandem with everyday work. Due to the small team Lina and I generally took on full ownership of the space and worked together with Tim and Quentin to meet budget and installation deadlines.

JMW Internal Team Brief

All these installations were completed for Jack Morton’s London office reception area. My role within these projects varied, but primarily across all installations I would model the space and installation, create visuals and an install guide. Some projects required more craft work which was something that Lina and I took on gladly.

These projects contain some of my most favourite work as they presented the opportunity to work within a micro team that was fuelled creative story telling. From a design perspective, we got to be part of the entire process, from setting the brief, scribbling ideas, creating props - right through to installation.

Seasons

The challenge was to create an installation that would be in place for a year. Installing trees gave us our ‘constant’ element, meaning updates throughout the year came from changing the foliage and props to mimic the seasons.

I am Jack

An installation made to highlight the creative talents and hobbies across the JMW London team. This project revealed painters, ceramicists and photographers, as well as fashion, sound and portrait artists in a celebration of creative talent.

A tongue-in-cheek gallery installation featuring fictional artists and their ‘inspirations’. Each painting or set or works was featured in our gallery catalog with a short biography and description about their creative self expressions…

Neon Gallery.

A celebration of colour with extra large neon painted canvases with animal scull embellishment. We wanted to create a bright installation with a bold use of colour for Summer, but also throw in a little juxtaposition of darkness incorporating animal sculls.

The Winter Shop

An in-house pop-up shop offering an array of seasonal relevant produce. Goods ranged from public transport delay kits (an individually wrapped leaf) to pre-misted reading glasses and discs of Vivaldi’s, ‘One Season’.
